Narrative
Two Harkonnen sisters battle the forces that threaten the future of humanity and create the legendary sect that would become known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are as if science fiction is all they’re cracked up to be… This series uses material from the Great Schools of Dune trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Rossak brotherhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit.
Nothing to write home about
All three books weave together the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Sook Doctors.. Mentioned in AniMat’s Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020). Let’s keep this review nice and tidy, shall we? No spoilers here – I wouldn’t dream of spoiling the mystery for you. Now the story itself is, well, totally worthwhile.
The pacing though?
Quite lackluster, I must say. It’s a bit difficult at times. I’m afraid the drama doesn’t exactly set the world on fire, although there are a few choice moments that manage to grab attention. As for the production, well, it screams “high quality”. Still, everything is competent enough, but it’s certainly not a masterpiece.
So, would I recommend it?
But let’s not be too harsh – there is some wonderful acting, especially from Tabu. This woman is an absolute gem. The cinematography and music are good, but a bit disappointing compared to DUNE. The direction? Well, she does her job, but she doesn’t spin gold, if you get me.
Just don’t expect fireworks
If you want to uncover the backstory and see where things start, by all means give it a try. Better watch the Indian miniseries “BRINDA”; which may be low budget but high content, with an intriguing narrative and realistic acting.
