Steve Martin plays the concertina in several scenes
Narrative
Three strangers, who live in the same New York City apartment building and share an obsession with true crimes, suddenly find themselves embroiled in a murder. He is, in fact, a very talented and accomplished musician. The viewer learned in the first episode that CHS lived above Oliver, who lived above Mabel, with that elevator scene.

BUT the first episode has CHS in an apartment on the seventh floor, Oliver on the eighth, Mabel on the ninth, the reverse order and well below CHS’s actual floor within the series. When the initial episodes of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ started getting 100% votes on Rotten Tomatoes, I must confess that I was skeptical that Steve Martin and company could maintain the funny and quirky nature of this comedy-thriller series until the very last episode. But Martin Short, Selena Gomez and he form an unlikely yet boisterous trio that keeps us hooked and entertained until the very last episode of this brilliantly written and infectiously funny series.
How this motley trio comes together to solve a bizarre murder that takes place in their apartment forms the rest of this story
Steve Martin and a fantastic Martin Short star as a pair of geriatric artists in decline who come across a young guild member (Gomez) who is also a fan of murder podcasts. Although some comedy and investigative series have some humor in them, have had huge fan bases like Monk (2002-09) and Psych (2006-14), this genre has always been a tightrope walk that most creators shy away from. Finding humor in the most unlikely places and filled with unexpected twists and a host of delightful supporting characters, it’s no surprise that Steve Martin was also one of the creative geniuses behind the writing of this play.
Well worth the 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating
Leaving us on a tantalizing knife-edge with a cliffhanger climax, I can’t wait for Season 2. A riot of laughs, suspense, and hugely bingeable! Highly recommended!
