MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy-drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan. He struggles with his family over the death of Zoe (Natalie Morales), his best friend who died in the military. Despite the love of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the stubborn mother (Gloria Reuben), and the tenderness of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and ill-fated friendship with Zoe keeps the duo isolated from the world. . Until Merit’s departed grandfather (Ed Harris), who was at the family’s ancestral lake house, begins to lose his way and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. Essentially, it’s a buddy movie about a complicated friendship, a fractured family, and the complicated ways to cope with grief.
