Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful
Narrative
Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, attempts to take over the criminal underworld in Gotham City. With the exception of the Bat-Signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman?

However, for his own series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. An umbrella falls over and the logo changes to that of Warner Bros..

The first episode is a direct continuation of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and I imagine those who haven’t seen the last one will be a little lost. But I watched The Batman a while back and this show did an admirable job of quickly reacquainting me with where the movie left off, and without bogging me down in a didactic recap.
The character may have absolutely nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right
It also nicely recaptures the film’s aesthetic and sombre tone, though the show has far more moments of sly frivolity than the movie does. As in The Batman, Colin Farrell does an excellent job of portraying The Penguin as a stereotypical mob “street kid” – rude, profane, flighty and quick to violence; but also smart, cunning and able to read people.
And I don’t know if the Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain an entire season, but so far he’s off to a great start
I have my doubts about the show giving The Penguin a teenage sidekick role – I’m not sure if he’s a good guy, but I’m not sure if he’s a good guy, but I’m not sure if he’s a good guy.
